Chaplin's music

The Chaplin Museum in Corsier-sur-Vevey is devoting an exhibition and various events to music. The actor was a musician himself, and composed the music for many of his films. One of them won him an Oscar.

From his earliest childhood, music was omnipresent in the life of Charlie Chaplin, whose parents were music-hall performers. In his youth, he took violin lessons and planned to become a concert or music hall performer. However, his first salary was spent on the purchase of a violin, and music played an essential role in his films.
With the advent of sound film, Chaplin spent hours in projection rooms perfecting the music for his films on his piano, drawing inspiration from the image. In 1931, for City Lights his first major score. In 1973, he won an Oscar for the music to the film Les Feux de la rampe.

Throughout 2020, the Chaplin Museum will be rediscovering Charlie Chaplin's work through its musical dimension.A series of key events will take place:
- The temporary exhibition, "Charlie Chaplin, the one-man band", from March 13 to June 28, 2020
- Musical circus with Charlot, April 10 to 26, 2020
- Exclusive concerts in the heart of the museum
- Meetings with Chaplin and music experts, including American conductor Timothy Brock.
