Inventory of Mariétan's works

In addition to the catalog of scores published in 2009, the Médiathèque Valais is publishing an inventory of the sound works of Valais composer Pierre Mariétan, of which it keeps almost 1,000 recordings at its Martigny site.

A 192-page collective work, the inventory of Pierre Mariétan's sound works references the recordings preserved in Martigny and digitized with the help of the Service de la culture. Compiled by Guillaume Billaux throughout the transfer process, this collection is accompanied by texts presenting the works and reproductions of concert programs. It is thus presented as a repertory of the constituent elements of Pierre Mariétan's compositions and a guide to reading or discovering the artist's works. The book covers the musician's output from 1962 to 2008.

Born in Monthey in 1935, Pierre Mariétan studied with Pierre Boulez, Bernd Alois Zimmermann and Karlheinz Stockhausen. In 1966, he was a founding member of the Groupe d'Etude et Réalisation Musicales (GERM), and in 1979 created the Laboratoire Acoustique et Musique Urbaine at the Ecole d'Architecture de Paris La Villette, which he directed until 1990. In the 1970s, he was also director of the Conservatoire de Garges (Paris region).
