Two weekends with Brahms

Glion's Hôtel Righi vaudois, its salons and gardens, dormant for 15 years, will be transformed into an ephemeral cultural center to celebrate the work of Johannes Brahms from May 9 to 20, 2013.

The Hôtel Righi Vaudois in Glion was one of the first buildings designed by architect Eugène Jost, and dates from the late 1860s. Long renowned as a four-star hotel, it now enjoys the special status of a disused hotel in very good condition, as it is maintained for young hospitality students.

Under the impetus of Christophe Shenk and with the Sine Nomine quartet (as part of its 30th anniversary celebrations), this Belle-Epoque jewel will be transformed to offer music lovers a journey back in time: salons, halls, ballrooms and dining rooms, gardens, verandas and bandstand will serve as the backdrop for a poetic setting that highlights Brahms's music, thought and the context of his life.

From May 9 to 20, 2013, during the Ascension and Whitsun weekends, Hotel Righi and its surroundings will welcome internationally renowned artists who will paint a portrait of this northern giant with a program alternating between requiem, concerto, piano works, organ works, choral music, chamber music and lieder.

Film screenings of works inspired by the life or music of Brahms, a choir class, a chamber music class with members of the Quatuor Sine Nomine, a theatrical performance dedicated to the meeting of Brahms, Clara and Robert Schumann, readings of Brahms's works, and more. Do you like Brahms... by Françoise Sagan, a café philo, and themed walking itineraries will complete this colorful program.

The organizers want to pretend. As if we were with him. And to realize this daydream, they have decided to bring together the strengths, resources and particularities of three local institutions: the association contrepoint, the Quatuor Sine Nomine and the Ensemble Vocal Lausanne, joined by the Trio Wanderer, Delphine Bardin, Pascal Moraguès, Claire Désert, Ophélie Gaillard, Christian Immler, Bruno Schneider, Jean-Claude Fasel and Nicolas Tulliez.

Do you like Brahms? will be repeated from June 28 to July 7, 2013 at the Parkhotel Bellevue in Adelboden and from July 12 to 19, 2013 at the Waldhaus Hotel in Sils-Maria.
