Composition prizes and winners' week

This year, the Geneva Competition is putting the spotlight on composition: from Monday April 29 to Wednesday May 1, the official Jury, chaired by Ivan Fedele, will gather in Geneva to study the compositions received from all over the world.

The works of the finalists chosen at the end of these three days will be performed by the Ensemble Contrechamps to open the "Semaine des Lauréats", a new series of concerts taking place in Geneva from December 1 to 6, 2013.

Last November, the Geneva International Music Competition announced that its activities would be spread over two-year periods. The performing arts competitions will move from an annual to a biennial rhythm, and will now take place in even-numbered years. Odd-numbered years will be devoted to the Composition Prize, and will feature a week of concerts dedicated to past laureates. The Prix de Composition will be held in 2013.

Organized for the first time in 2011, the Prix de Composition continues the tradition of the former Prix Reine Marie José, which was bequeathed to the Geneva Competition in 2010, and whose aim is to encourage new works and thus support quality creation.

A round table discussion, moderated by Frank Langlois, professor and musicologist teaching in Lyon, will be held on Wednesday May 1 at 6:30 pm, in the presence of the members of the 2013 Composition Prize Jury. It will address the issue of creation in the face of competition phenomena and institutions. Open to contemporary music professionals, students at the Haute Ecole de Musique de Genève and the simply curious, the round table will take place at the Institut National Genevois.
