Twice a year, the UBS Foundation for Culture awards prizes in six artistic fields, including music. Its activities focus on supporting artists, cultural players and cultural projects throughout Switzerland. The UBS Foundation for Culture encourages contemporary creation in the field of classical music. It supports instrumental and vocal ensembles, particularly in the field of New Music, as well as composers and musicians of supra-regional renown.

This year's winners in French-speaking Switzerland are:

Association Les Amplitudes, La Chaux-de-Fonds
In 2013, the biannual "Les Amplitudes" festival is dedicated to composer Eric Gaudibert. With this in mind, several works have been commissioned, including a joint work entitled Feedthrough for acoustic instruments and electronics, which will be performed and premiered on May 18, 2013 in La Chaux-de-Fonds.

CIE T2+, Lausanne
The UBS Foundation for Culture is supporting drummer and composer Alberto Malo, who has been commissioned to write the music for the play Le ménage de Loretta. He will be on stage during the performance, introducing the drum score live. The play is scheduled to premiere in the 2013/14 season.

Antoine Chessex, Oldenburg
In his piece Schatten, Antoine Chessex (b. 1980, Vevey) explores the specific musical possibilities of a string quartet. Schatten was created especially for Berlin's Sonar Quartett.

Association Zone Franche, Geneva
The Association Zone Franche in Geneva has commissioned works by Swiss composers Denis Schuler and Bettina Skrzypczak. They will be part of the "Solos & More" concert series. The premiere will take place in September.

Across the Sahel, the UBS Foundation has supported projects at the Basel University of Music, Musik & Wort in Lucerne, the Lucerne Festival, Werdenberg Castle, Voce d'Argovia in Hettenschwil, pre-art in Zurich and the Schaffhausen Jazz Festival. French-speaking composers Alexandre Babel and William Blank are both supported by UBS through projects in German-speaking Switzerland.
