The Schubertiade in Monthey: 1500 musicians and choristers in 20 venues for 180 concerts. From a hydroelectric plant to a stained-glass school, via unusual outdoor stages, the public is invited to enjoy a truly original musical itinerary.

Highlights of the 18th edition include the OSR gala concert at the Théâtre du Crochetan on Saturday, September 7, with Kazuki Yamada at the podium and Cheng Zhang, the latest winner of the Clara Haskil Competition, at the keyboard. Mozart and Schubert will be in the spotlight. In addition to Schubert's traditional German Mass, the Orchestre de la Suisse Italienne will close the event with an explosive program in homage to Schubert.

This is the third time that the canton of Valais has hosted the event. Numerous musicians and singers from the Valais region will be performing in a variety of sonorous settings: from soprano Brigitte Fournier to the Chœur de Monthey, from the Marquis de Saxe and Délit de cuivre to the Chœur Novantiqua de Sion and the Ensemble de cuivres du Chablais.
On September 6, a local collective, "Les musiciens de la folle journée", will perform an inaugural concert at the Théâtre du Crochetan (free admission) at 8:30pm.

One of Switzerland's most important competitions celebrates its fiftieth anniversary this year at the heart of the Schubertiade: 17 first-prize winners of the Clara Haskil Competition will take to the stage. These internationally renowned musicians from all over the world include Michel Dalberto, Finghin Collins, Hisako Kawamura, Till Fellner and Evgeny Korolyov.

Detailed concert times and locations will be announced in August.
