Gleb Skvortsov to lead the OSG

Gleb Skvortsov to succeed Hervé Klopfenstein as head of Orchestre Symphonique Genevois from January 2014

Born in St. Petersburg, Gleb Skvortsov studied music at the Glinka College, the Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory and the Geneva Conservatory in the conducting class.

He has worked as an assistant to Michel Corboz, Dmitry Kitajenko, Emmanuel Krivine and Fabio Luisi. He has conducted various ensembles, including the OCL and the OSR. He also directed the University of Geneva Choir and Orchestra for 10 years.

He has just been chosen in a competitive process to succeed Hervé Klopfenstein, who will step down as artistic director at the end of 2013, after 24 years in the post.

Founded in 1977 by David Blum, the Orchestre Symphonique Genevois has given over 360 concerts in Geneva, French-speaking Switzerland and neighboring France in its 35 years of existence. Comprising between 80 and 100 musicians, the orchestra is an integral part of Geneva's cultural life, in which it has found an important place.

Hervé Klopfenstein will conduct his final concerts in November at Victoria Hall and Lausanne Cathedral, with Verdi's Requiem on the program.
