Ivan Fedele, Chairman of the Jury, commented on the quality of the five works selected for the Final: "The five compositions were of a high quality, presenting a variety of styles and poetics. They reassure us about the young creation".

The subject of the 2013 Composition Prize was a "work for solo flute and small ensemble of five instruments". Five candidates from Italy, South Korea and Japan were selected for the Final in the first round this spring. Their works were performed in the public final on December 1 by the Ensemble Contrechamps, conducted by Gregory Charette. The winning work will be chosen as the compulsory piece for the flute competition semi-final in 2014.
