The young American conductor - 27 years old - will lead the ensemble both in Lausanne for all OCL concert series and abroad on tours and recordings.

When Joshua Weilerstein first came to Lausanne in June 2014, he aroused the enthusiasm of OCL musicians and audiences alike, in a program dedicated to Richard Strauss and Robert Schumann.

With a repertoire ranging from Carlo Gesualdo to Christopher Rouse, Joshua Weilerstein is predestined to broaden and energize the concert experience, opening up the world of classical music to new audiences and creating a mutual dialogue between them and the musicians.

Born in Rochester into a musical family, Joshua Weilerstein won first prize and the Audience Award at the Malko Competition for Young Conductors in Copenhagen, which launched his career. He then became assistant conductor of the New York Philharmonic under Alan Gilbert, a three-year tenure ending in 2013-2014. He was also concertmaster of the Discovery Ensemble, a Boston-based chamber orchestra dedicated to introducing classical music to the city's schools.

Joshua Weilerstein enjoys talking to musicians and audiences alike. He is available on social networks to discuss the future of classical music, programming and the concert experience.
