Ascona Music Weeks
The Settimane Musicali di Ascona, Ticino's oldest classical music event, celebrates its 71st edition from September 5 to October 14, 2016.
A total of thirteen concerts are offered in the festival's imposing venues: the Papio College Church in Ascona for the chamber orchestras, and the Church of San Francesco for the symphonic rendezvous. This 71st edition, directed by Francesco Piemontesi, focuses on one of the most fascinating and richest periods in the history of music, the first half of the 20th century, with particular emphasis on composers belonging to the Impressionist school of music: Debussy, Ravel, not forgetting Shostakovich and Janacek, who are not directly linked to this school, but whose highly personal language influenced the musical aesthetics of future generations.
The prestigious London Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of Gianandrea Noseda, opens the festival on September 5.
