World music in the Valais

The Médiathèque Valais in Sion resumes its "Des mots et des notes" cycle after a summer break.

Amine and Hamza M'Raihi

For the fourth consecutive season, multi-instrumentalist Vincent Zanetti will present five contrasting human and artistic journeys in five public, interactive and partly musical interviews. From Tunisia to China, via Morocco, Afghanistan and India, the guest artists have totally different backgrounds, but what they all have in common is that they practice and transmit to Switzerland a musical tradition from elsewhere, of which they are the ambassadors.

The first meeting will welcome brothers Amine and Hamza M'Raihi, Tunisian virtuosos on the qanun zither and oud. Aged 28 and 29, they have released several CDs, played on many stages in Europe and the Mediterranean, from the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris to the Cairo Opera, and are considered by critics to be part of the avant-garde of contemporary Tunisian musicians. Today, the two brothers are doctors living in French-speaking Switzerland, but they continue to share their talents as instrumentalists and composers.
This first evening will take place on Thursday September 22 at 6:15pm. Admission is free.
