Wireless microphone frequencies
Since January 1, 2013, certain frequencies have been banned.
Wireless microphones first appeared over thirty years ago. Today, they are widely used not only in the entertainment world, but also in conferences, public debates, the audiovisual industry and elsewhere. The use of such equipment is subject to telecommunications regulations. Since January 1, 2013, in most cases, their operation no longer requires a concession.
However, since the same date, the 789 - 823 MHz and 832 - 862 MHz bands can no longer be used for wireless microphones: they have been allocated to cell phone services.
This decision was taken by the Federal Office of Communications (OFCOM), given that wireless telephone communications are becoming increasingly widespread, while HF microphones are still used by a small category of people. It was also necessary to harmonize frequencies at European level. However, the abolition of these frequency bands is causing a stir among entertainment technicians, who in some cases are having to throw away or modify a large part of their microphone equipment at great expense.
