Culture in numbers
The Federal Office of Culture and the Federal Statistical Office have published a brochure containing interesting data on culture in Switzerland.

The book, available online or in hard copy in the four national languages, is called Pocket statistics on culture in Switzerland. It presents concise statistical information on culture in Switzerland, covering topics such as the population's cultural practices, the use of cultural offerings and government spending on culture. The 2016 edition provides new data on cultural funding by charitable foundations, crowdfunding in the cultural sector and the top ten best-selling CDs.
How much culture is there in Switzerland? How many cinemas, museums, theaters, monuments and libraries are there? How many people take advantage of this offer, and for what purposes? What obstacles do they face? How many people take part in cultural activities in their free time, and what types of activity are involved? How much do public authorities and foundations contribute to culture? How many people work in the cultural sector? These are questions that concern artists, cultural and political players, the media and the general public, in Switzerland and abroad. Visit Pocket statistics provides answers.
Cultural statistics provide an overview of the cultural landscape and illustrate its changes. They serve as a basis for political debate and highlight the importance of culture for society and the economy. The Federal Office of Culture is responsible for commissioning, collecting and publishing studies and surveys on cultural policy, statistics and economics. In this context, the Federal Office of Culture and the Federal Statistical Office have strengthened and institutionalized their collaboration.
