Claude Cortese appointed director of Opéra de Lausanne
The Board of Trustees of the Opéra de Lausanne has appointed Mr. Claude Cortese to succeed Mr. Eric Vigié as Director of the institution from July 1, 2024.
At the end of a recruitment process that began in September 2022, the Selection Commission unanimously proposed to the Board of Trustees and the Municipality of Lausanne the appointment of Mr. Claude Cortese as Director of the Opéra de Lausanne, his candidacy having been selected from among the 50 applications received.
A musician by training, Claude Cortese developed a passion for the opera stage at a very early age, and began working as a stage manager at the age of 19, with his first contract... at the Opéra de Lausanne! For several years, he honed his professional skills at major international opera houses, before an eight-year stint as production stage manager at the Grand Théâtre de Genève.
Since 2003, Claude Cortese has held various artistic management positions at Angers Nantes Opéra, Opéra national de Lorraine in Nancy, and Opéra national du Rhin in Strasbourg, where he is currently Artistic Production Director. This extensive professional experience at directorial level means that he has mastered all the artistic, technical and budgetary aspects inherent in the programming of the seasons entrusted to him. His international network has grown over the years, making him a recognized figure in the opera world.
