In 1998, six music associations merged to form the Swiss Music Review.
Music magazines have existed in Switzerland since the 19th century, and remained directly linked to choral singing well into the 20th. After a period of fragmentation, the Revue Musicale Suisse was born in 1998 from the merger of six association organs.
In 2008, Swiss Music Review celebrated its tenth anniversary.
On November 28, 2014, the Extraordinary Meeting of Delegates of the Swiss Music Review Association resolved to appoint NZZ Fachmedien AG as publisher of the Swiss Music Review with effect from January 1, 2015, and to wind up the Swiss Music Review Association.
Following the creation of CH Media in 2018 by NZZ and AZ Medien, NZZ Fachmedien AG - and thus Swiss Music Review - was taken over by CH Regionalmedien AG.
Since October 1, 2020, Swiss Music Review has been owned by Galledia Fachmedien AG. See the CH Media press release (in German).
