SSPM celebrates its 125th anniversary
The French-speaking sections of the SSPM (Vaud, Geneva, Neuchâtel and Valais) form the French-speaking working group for this jubilee.
This collaboration represents a unique opportunity to bring together people from sections not accustomed to working together. The challenge is to combine our ideas, strengths and differences, as well as our creativity, to create a show that reflects our vision of our association, takes into account our history and identity, while fitting into the Swiss and international musical landscape.
Each canton has its own identity and reality, its own resources and needs. With this in mind, we have decided to adapt our projects to suit local possibilities. In fact, each section can propose its own activities: workshops, masterclasses, concerts offered in collaboration with other sections, as well as adapting the show (described in detail below) using local or exported personnel.
For the moment, we have two dates to propose:
Sunday, October 21 at the Château-d'Oex temple as part of the "Le bois qui chante" festival.
Saturday November 24 in Neuchâtel, as part of the weekend of festivities to mark the section's 60th anniversary.
This is the storyline of the show created for the occasion, our aim being to blend generations, teachers and students, music and history.
"Once upon a time 125 years ago
Let's imagine for a moment that there's a secretary with the power to span the 20th century and beyond... from 1893 to the present day, she'll guide you through 125 years of discoveries, inventions and human events. The musical show will retrace the history of the SSPM and its 125 years of existence, through the association's key dates, the evolution of music pedagogy in Switzerland and anecdotes gathered from some of the SSPM's living memories.
Lasting around 60 minutes, it is aimed at a wide audience, both members and non-members, and combines narration with musical interludes ranging from Gustave Doret to Maurice Ravel, including jazz notes and other surprises. Pieces representative of each era are chosen according to the key dates and events recounted, and will be performed by teachers and/or students of the highest calibre. Children's choir, adult choir, string orchestra, chamber music, pieces for piano, harp... All styles will be represented. A bit of history, a touch of humor, beautiful melodies and a warm collaboration: these are the ingredients for a wonderful human and musical adventure.
