Conference of Swiss Universities of Music brings together the seven currently recognized Swiss music academies: Basel, Bern, Geneva, Lausanne, Lucerne, Lugano and Zurich.
CHEMS supports and coordinates vocational training at national level; it is committed to the widespread recognition of university degrees and defines quality standards.
CHEMS maintains contacts with professional organizations in the music world, takes a stance on cultural and educational policy issues, and promotes the many facets of music and music education.
At present, some 3,500 students are pursuing Bachelor's and Master's degrees at Swiss music colleges. In addition, there is a varied, interesting and specific range of continuing education courses. The Bachelor's and Master's courses offered by CHEMS members cover a wide stylistic spectrum (classical, jazz, opera, popular music, media art, theory, film music, etc.), as well as the pedagogical field. CHEMS works closely with a number of sister organizations at national and international level.
