The Société Fédérale des Orchestres (SFO) brings together Switzerland's amateur orchestras. It currently has some 200 member orchestras, including 40 youth orchestras. Most of the musicians in these orchestras are amateurs.
The aim is to enjoy being and playing together. The programs studied are regularly presented to the public at concerts.
Visit SFO aims to promote and encourage the musical culture of amateur orchestras at various levels. It is present throughout Switzerland and communicates in German as in French. It acts as an intermediary between orchestras and amateur musicians in Switzerland and Europe. The SFO represents its members in political, cultural and copyright matters.
The association manages a score library open to SFO members, and helps them settle their royalties with SUISA. It advises its members on musical, legal and organizational issues, and regularly organizes specialized conferences, roundtables and orchestra weeks.
