40 years in Cossonay
To celebrate its 40th anniversary, the Ecole de Musique de Cossonay is entrusting the artistic direction of several concerts to its teachers, and commissioning two original works from two of them.
The program of events, currently in preparation, includes a piano creation and numerous arrangements, notably around the theme of Mozart's 40th Symphony. The idea is to modulate the concerts around the numbers 4, 40, 400 and so on. Thus, the themes of the evenings are: 40 votes... and more if you agree! (November 8, 2015), 40 years, 4 pianos, 40 pianists (January 24, 2016), swinging like in '40 (March 6, 2016), Roaring 40s (April 24, 2016), 40 years, like a musical cocktail (June 26, 2016).
This eclectic program will bring together ensembles from the School's activities with established professionals - 500 musicians in all. The anniversary concerts take place at the Temple de Cossonay or the Théâtre du Pré aux Moines.
Founded in 1976 on the initiative of the Société de développement, the Parents' Association and Claudine Schumacher, the Ecole de Musique de Cossonay currently has over 460 students from some thirty communes in and around Cossonay. Marie-Thérèse Leuenberger has been Director since 1996. The EMC is a member of the Association Vaudoise des Conservatoires et Ecoles de Musique (AVCEM). Public auditions, concerts, non-classical music workshops and examinations are organized every year. An instrument showcase is organized every spring. The EMC is recognized by the State and subsidized jointly by the canton, the commune of Cossonay and the majority of the communes concerned. An Association of Friends of the EMC supports the school by organizing four to five concerts a year. The funds raised help finance the purchase of instruments and support students in financial difficulty.
