With M'Bappé and Sabal-Lecco

On September 20, 2018, to launch its new concert season, the Haute Ecole de Musique de Lausanne (HEMU) invites musicians Etienne M'Bappé and Félix Sabal-Lecco to perform with the HEMU Jazz Orchestra in a jazz, pop and African music concert at the Musée Historique de Lausanne (MHL). They will also each present a masterclass at the HEMU the day before their concert.

The HEMU will take over the MHL premises for an afterwork to mark the launch of its 2018-2019 concert season. The HEMU Jazz Orchestra, featuring guitarist Françis Coletta, vibraphonist Thomas Dobler, trumpeter Zacharie Ksyk and saxophonist Antoine Favennec, will perform alongside Etienne M'Bappé and Félix Sabal-Lecco. The guests will each give a masterclass on Wednesday September 19 at the BCV Concert Hall.

Franco-Cameroonian artists, they have distinguished themselves alongside world-famous musicians. Bassist Etienne M'Bappé has worked with Ray Charles, Bill Evans and John McLaughlin. He released his latest album, How Near How Far, in 2016, marking the birth of his band The Prophets, and then toured across Africa and Europe until spring 2018. Drummer Félix Sabal-Lecco has collaborated with Prince, Peter Gabriel, Paul Simon, Lenny Kravitz, Herbie Hancock, among others.

Concert season 2018-2019
Many of this season's highlights will take place at the BCV Concert Hall under the Flon Autrement "discovery" banner: Hélène Walter, winner of the HEMU prize at the Kattenburg 2017 singing competition, will perform with François Salque's cello ensemble (08.12.2018), the HEMU Jazz Orchestra will celebrate Charles Trenet (19.01.2019), the Ensemble contemporain de l'HEMU will perform alongside the École de Cirque de Lausanne-Renens (30.03.2919) and Virginie Robilliard will offer a shocking fusion concert between violin and African percussion with Thomas Guei (06.04.2019). Collaborations with valued partners will also punctuate the season in the classical, jazz and contemporary music departments, notably with the Jazz Onze+ Festival Lausanne, Cully Jazz Festival, SMC Lausanne, Festival Archipel, Théâtre 2.21, Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne and Le Bourg.
