The creation of the MAO (computer-assisted music) department corresponds to a real need, enabling a music school to keep pace with developments in today's musical world and the requirements of higher music schools.

In Lausanne, EJMA created an MAO department in 2018. Its aim is to provide comprehensive training in this field, combining theory, technique and practice. A complete five-level curriculum is open to students from the age of eight, and includes individual and group lessons, as well as masterclasses. The department has been funded by a donation that has enabled us to acquire all the equipment needed to teach MAO, which represents a substantial investment. School fees will ensure its operation.

Initial results are very positive. In its second year of existence, the department has around thirty students, ranging in age from eight to 50. Some fine projects have been proposed: Earthrise at Les Docks in December 2018, Wax Werk Live for the Youth Olympic Games in Lausanne in January 2020, for example.

This department received the Best Practice Award from the Swiss Association of Music Schools (ASEM).
