Sunshine in the home
On her new album, singer-songwriter Marcela Arroyo takes us into her Argentinian-Swiss world.
As a classical singer, I'm always a little apprehensive before writing about a voice from another horizon. With Marcela Arroyo's latest recording, that apprehension stops at the first note and is immediately transformed into delight. The voice is beautiful, embodied, immaculate, supple and capable of a wide range of nuances. The (magical) melodic lines are chiselled with an accuracy beyond all suspicion, the intervals are of absolute purity. Above all, the voice is totally involved in the music being performed. The music? A very pleasant mix of tango, jazz and folklore. Marcela Arroyo's sensual voice is accompanied by a first-rate instrumental ensemble, from which emerge trumpet, piano and guitar solos whose swing leaves nothing to be desired!
You can listen to this CD while doing something else, as background music, and it will go down just fine. But... it's worth stopping and really listening. To appreciate the subtle harmonizations, to let yourself go completely on the wings of this song, to let yourself be invaded by the Latin rhythms. From now on, if the sun doesn't shine in your house, there's nothing more I can do for you!
