12th FIMS Composition Competition
The Festival international de musiques sacrées de Fribourg (FIMS) launches the twelfth edition of its Composition Competition, inspired by the works of Igor Stravinsky.
Organized in co-production with the Haute Ecole de Musique Vaud-Valais-Fribourg (HEMU) and in collaboration with Espace 2 (Radio Télévision Suisse), this 12th edition is devoted to wind instruments. By October 15, 2013, participants must present a work composed exclusively for wind ensemble, using all or part of the instrumentation of Igor Stravinsky's famous "Symphonies d'instruments à vent" in their 1947 version.
An international jury, chaired by Thuring Bräm (CH) and including Dieter Ammann (CH), Jean-Pierre Chollet (CH), Akemi Naito (J/USA) and Philippe Ferro (F), will meet in Fribourg and award the 2013 Composition Competition Prize (CHF 10,000) on November 24, 2013.
Subject to exceptional circumstances beyond the control of the organizers, the First Prize will be premiered by the HEMU Wind Orchestra, a wind ensemble made up of students from the professional classes of the Haute Ecole de Musique Vaud-Valais-Fribourg, on Sunday, July 6, 2014, as part of the 15th International Festival of Sacred Music, Fribourg.
