Cully unveils its program

The 31st edition of the Cully Jazz Festival will take place from April 5 to 13, 2013. True to its eclecticism, the program includes big names in jazz, new discoveries, original encounters and music from elsewhere.

Jazz greats
Le Chapiteau will welcome Lizz Wright, today's icon of Black Music, for an evening of femininity, as Meshell Ndegeocello succeeds her on stage. Other highlights include a carte blanche for pianist Jacky Terrasson, and appearances by rappers Oxmo Puccino and Blitz The Ambassador.

Adventurous encounters
Musical encounters include the duo formed by Italian singer Gianmaria Testa and clarinettist Gabriele Mirabassi. But also a dialogue between contemporary jazz and classical music with Anja Lechner and François Couturier duo. Last but not least, the encounter between Sardinian trumpeter Paolo Fresu and Cuban pianist Omar Sosa has caused an earthquake in the jazz world, their collaboration being so magical.

Malian hopefuls
This year, the focus is mainly on Africa, with the duos Kouyaté & Neerman, Habib Koité & Erik Bibb, and the sextet of Cheick Tidiane Seck and Rokia Traoré, who will deliver a message of hope for the north of their country, the historic land of blues and jazz, which in just a few months has become a musical non-place and a zone of terror.

Discovering voices
There are many male and female voices to discover: Portuguese singer Luisa Sobral, a veritable meeting point between New York, Paris and Lisbon, young funk revelation Nina Attal and French crooner Charles Pasi, a genius of voice and harmonica. Finally, the miraculous return of Wayne Paul, a sort of Daniel Darc of London dub.
