La Comédie de Genève turns 100
The Comédie de Genève was born just over one hundred years ago from a great philanthropic movement that marked the beginning of the 20th century.
It crossed the aspirations of men and women who dreamed of changing the world and wanted to give democratic ideals a beginning of reality. Its four founders (Henri Baudin, Ernest Fournier, William Viollier and Albert Richard) were members of the Union pour l'art social (Union for Social Art), whose aim was "to introduce art to the large number of people whose economic situation keeps them away from the artistic movement".
The events organized to mark the Comédie's centenary will provide an opportunity to discover this little-known history and rekindle the dreams of that era.
Several concerts are being organized in partnership with the Geneva and Lausanne HEMs. These include: a portrait of Pierre Boulez on January 18, Stravinsky's Le Sacre du Printemps on January 22, Boulez and Debussy on January 26, a Brecht recital by Armen Godel on February 32 and a Vienna School evening on February 4.
