Opera in all its forms
Classical opera, romantic opera, operetta: L'Opéra dans tous ses états cheerfully traverses the three ages of this age-old art form, calling on some of the greatest composers, interweaving works and offering no respite.
To share this love for an art that is more plural than ever, the two singers behind the project, Leana Durney and Davide Autieri, let their voices venture into moving terrain. They are aided in this by a pianist, Guy-François Leuenberger, not an accompanist but a character in his own right. Finally, Frédéric Mairy, a stage director with a background in theater, ensures the coherence and rhythm of the whole.
This small structure offers a new take on classical vocal music through humor. But purists need not worry: while opera may go through almost every state, it still comes out of this show in top form. The guiding principle behind the creation of this show was not to laugh at the art of opera, but to laugh with it, with its codes (the plot, here as elsewhere, is that of a love story set against a red velvet backdrop), its great arias and its beautiful arias.
L'Opéra dans tous ses états will be in Cossonay, at the Théâtre du Pré-aux-Moines on January 20 at 5pm, in Neuchâtel at the Théâtre du Passage from February 12 to 17, in Biel at the Théâtre Palace on March 22, before leaving for Avignon.
