tü-ta-too, the traveling ear

To celebrate its 25th anniversary, the Swiss National Sound Archives inaugurated the travelling exhibition "tü-ta-too, l'oreille en voyage" in Lugano.

The exhibition takes visitors on a journey through our sonic heritage and, more generally, the world of sound. The visit takes the form of an individual journey, during which participants let themselves be surprised by what they choose to listen to. It's a sonic journey in which the ear is the protagonist and the other senses become companions. The phonothèque has drawn on its collection of over 5 million titles of classical, rock, jazz and popular music, plays, audio books, interviews and research documents.

The exhibition consists of nine modules: Silence, Our Sound Heritage, Sound and Identity, The Voices of Switzerland, A House Full of Music, Listening Quality, Research, Playing and Inventing, In the Realm of Fairy Tales.

The exhibition can be seen at the Phonotheca, Villa Ciani in Lugano. It is open until March 10, 2013, Tuesday to Sunday from 10am to 6pm and on Thursday until 9pm.
