Composition Prize finalists
Five candidates have been selected for the final of the Composition Prize at the 68th Geneva International Music Competition. Their works will be performed by the Ensemble Contrechamps at a public Finale on December 1, 2013.
The 68th edition of the Geneva International Music Competition is dedicated to composition. The official Jury, chaired by Ivan Fedele, met from April 29 to May 1 to study the 34 applications for the 2013 Composition Prize. At the end of the meeting, 5 finalists were chosen:
- Mr Eunho CHANG, South Korea, aged 29
- Mr Kwang Ho CHO, South Korea, aged 25
- Mr Gabriele COSMI, Italy, aged 24
- Mr Adriano GAGLIANELLO, Italy, aged 29
- Ms Chikako YAMANAKA, Japan, aged 30
President of the Jury, Italian composer Ivan Fedele noted the generally high quality of the scores received. After an initial selection of some fifteen well-crafted works, a second round of voting enabled the Jury to choose the 5 finalists. These were highly interesting scores, written in a poetic spirit and demonstrating a fine mastery of the music. Of different characters, they reflect the musical spirit of the time and the diversity of cultural and stylistic approaches.
The public Finale will take place on Sunday, December 1, 2013 at the Studio Ernest-Ansermet, Geneva. On this occasion, the finalists' works will be performed as world premieres by the Ensemble Contrechamps, conducted by Michael Wendeberg. This event marks the opening of the "Semaine des Lauréats", which runs from December 1 to 6. The winning work will also be chosen as the compulsory piece for the Flute Competition in 2014.
