Light music on the airwaves

The exhibition "Mémoire de Radio-Genève: la musique légère sur les ondes" is on view until July 12, 2013 at the Bibliothèque musicale de la Ville de Genève. Special activities are planned for the Fête de la musique.

Satisfaction, music by M. Jagger and K. Richard, arranged by Stuff Combe, manuscript score.

In the early 1960s, Radio Suisse Romande founded a light music orchestra for its Geneva studio activities. Under different names such as Les Radionautes, Jazz-Group, Orchestre Tony D'Adario or Groupe Instrumental Romand (GIR), this ensemble met the needs of radio and television for entertaining music. Its repertoire includes a wide range of hits, light and dance music, jazz, songs and Swiss premieres. Stuff Combe, Luc Hoffmann, Roby Seidel and the group's other musicians compose and arrange the songs. Their activities ceased in 1985, but left behind thousands of recordings and handwritten scores. The latter, donated to the Music Library in 2010, are presented in the exhibition Mémoire de Radio-Genève: la musique légère sur les ondes, along with a few musical notes in Braille by blind pianist Achille Scotti, as well as archival recordings.

To celebrate the Fête de la musique, a guided tour will be organized on Sunday June 23 at 2pm. Concerts and a listening room will also be held on June 22 and 23.

Bibliothèque musicale de la Ville de Genève is located at the Maison des arts du Grütli, Rue du Général-Dufour 16.
