Music festival in Sion

A day of music, no less than 28 hours of free concerts, with stages set up between the old town of Sion and the Jesuit site. Internationally-renowned artist Julian Rachlin and a host of excellent local performers will enliven various venues in the town of Sion on Saturday August 10 from 10am to 5pm.

The 49th edition of the Sion Festival will take place from August 9 to 21 under the theme Voix Violon. Mozart will rub shoulders with Piazzola, Haydn, Boccherini and Frank Martin. Artistic director Pavel Vernikov has devised a varied and harmonious program that crosses centuries and genres, from "serious" pieces to lighter works.

Musique en fête on August 10 will welcome Julian Rachlin - soloist in the opening concert on the evening of August 9 - on Saturday 10 at Salle de Wolff at 11am. The event will also feature numerous local artists, including the Novantiqua choir, Le Papatuor, the Cantonal Conservatory's percussion ensemble, young soloists from the Conservatory and various instrumental ensembles, a jazz and classical instrumental duo and a violin and accordion duo, the Fanfaribole for youngsters, open classes and final masterclass concerts in violin, cello and voice from the Tibor Varga Music Academy.

A pre-concert will also be given at the Jesuit Church on August 5, featuring teachers from the Tibor Varga Academy of Music.
