Phi-Phi on the road in French-speaking Switzerland

After its 2010 and 2012 tours, Opéra de Lausanne is back on the Route Lyrique, stopping off again in Vichy for one of the most effective operettas in the repertoire.

"Greek costumes, Gallic spirit, French music, English dance", announced the poster for the premiere of Phi-Phi: this was to satisfy the need for frivolity of an audience exhausted by the First World War. With its saucy refrains, playful winks and subtle blend of tradition and modernity, this three-act operetta has been a colossal success since its premiere.

Written by Albert Willemetz and Fabien Solar, with music by Henri Christiné, it premiered at the Théâtre des Bouffes-Parisiens in Paris on November 12, 1918.

The new Opéra de Lausanne production is directed by Jacques Blanc and staged by Gérard Demierre. It has been touring French-speaking Switzerland since the beginning of June, before leaving for the Opéra de Vichy on July 11.
