The aim of the prize is to distinguish and highlight innovative, high-quality Swiss musical creation. The prize is endowed with CHF 100,000, with each nominee receiving CHF 25,000. A dozen experts commissioned by the FOC carried out research in various musical fields and in all regions of Switzerland. Proposals were submitted to the Federal Music Jury. The seven-member Jury had the task of selecting 15 finalists from the 41 submissions, and then choosing a winner from these 15.

The nominees include artists from all over Switzerland and of all styles. Bern's Andreas Schaerer, Beat-man and Julian Sartorius, Zurich's Irene Schweizer, Norbert Möslang from St. Gallen, Ensemble Phoenix Basel, Erika Stucky (Thalwil), Hans Kennel (Baar), Marcel Oetiker (Altendorf) and Ensemble Steamboat Switzerland. Dragos Tara from Lausanne, Franz Treichler and Mama Rosin from Geneva, Franco Cesarini from Melide and Corin Curschellas from Rueun are other candidates for this national distinction.

Label Suisse is a free, urban, popular music festival devoted entirely to the Swiss music scene. The 6th edition of Label Suisse will be held from September 19 to 21, 2014, in the city of Lausanne.
