Sion Festival in style

Once again, the Sion Festival was a success. This year's positive results were marked by an increase in ticket sales of over 20%.

After a fiftieth anniversary in 2014, expectations were high for this new edition. The enthusiasm of a wider audience encourages the Sion Festival to continue on this path. "Music lovers in the know, as well as younger audiences less accustomed to concert halls, mingled happily with each other, and this gives me great encouragement for future programming," says Artistic Director Pavel Vernikov.

For president Chantal Balet, "one of the highlights of this year's event was Janine Jansen's radiant performance of the extraordinary Goldberg Variations by Johann Sebastian Bach alongside Nicolas Altstaedt and Nirmod Guez; an outstanding performance worthy of the artist's talent, confirming the quality of the Sion Festival's programming". The closing concert, featuring Julian Rachlin and the Orchestra of Italian Switzerland, beautifully opened the 2016 Festival's horizon.

Olivier Vocat, General Manager, underlines "the tenderness, humour and poetry of the show by Gidon Kremer, the Kremerata Baltica and the clown Slava Polunin", hosted on the main stage of the Crochetan in Monthey.
