The subject of the 2015 Composition Prize is a work for string quartet. Meeting this spring in Geneva, the Jury selected four finalist works from among 109 entries received from all over the world. These four pieces will be performed at a public Finale on Sunday November 8 at 8pm in the RTS Ansermet Studio. The winning work from the final concert will be the compulsory piece of the String Quartet Competition in 2016. A new discipline since 2011, composition continues the tradition of the Prix Reine Marie José, founded in 1958. Its aim is to encourage the creation of new works and thus support high-quality creative work.

Winners' Festival

In over 75 years of existence, the Geneva Competition has revealed an impressive number of musicians, some of whom have gone on to become internationally renowned artists. Created in 2013, the Laureates Festival aims to celebrate this legacy and promote its most recent winners. From November 8 to 15, the 2015 edition will feature 14 concerts focusing on two main themes: the quartet and the piano. It's an opportunity to reunite with some thirty prizewinners, including 17 pianists who won prizes between 2001 and 2014. They will be reunited at the Piano Weekend, organized at the Bâtiment des Forces motrices on Saturday November 14 and Sunday November 15.

New collaborations

For the second year running, a partnership has been set up with the Haute école d'art et de design (HEAD). This year, students have been invited to design a mobile "musical object", which the public will discover during the two weeks preceding the Festival.

The Concours de Genève also collaborates with the Department of Musicology at the University of Geneva. As part of a seminar dedicated to the "String Quartet after 1950", Professor Ulrich Mosch will guide students through the history and genealogy of contemporary scores.
