Shoichi Yabuta winner

Japan's Shoichi Yabuta wins the Composition Prize at the 70th Geneva International Music Competition.

At the close of the public Finals held on November 8 at the Studio Ansermet in Geneva, the 2015 Composition Prize of the 70th Geneva International Music Competition was awarded to Shoichi Yabuta (32) of Japan for his work for string quartet. Billow.

The audience was won over by the young South Korean Sunghyun Lee (20), who won not only the Audience Award, but also the Young Audience Award and the Student Award for his work Sparkling Moment. The Special Prize of the Otto and Régine Heim Foundation was awarded to Portuguese artist Adérito Valente (35) for his play Onis ex Tempore.

The subject of the 2015 Composition Prize was a work for string quartet. The winning work will be chosen as the compulsory piece for the semi-final of the string quartet competition in 2016.

The official Jury was made up of five renowned composers: Michael Jarrell (Chairman), Pascal Dusapin, Luca Francesconi, Dai Fujikura and Wolfgang Rihm.
