Every year, the Verbier Festival brings together international artists to pass on their knowledge to young musicians from all over the world. A number of concerts brightened up this 23rd edition, starting with the two operas by Carmen by Bizet and Falstaff by Verdi. Other highlights include Daniil Trifonov's recital of his Piano Concerto, a chamber music concert with Leonidas Kavakos, Yuja Wang and Martin Fröst, and a performance by Daniel Lozakovich.

The Verbier Festival also continues to develop its educational activities. Members of the Verbier Festival Academy took part in this intensive three-week springboard program, giving some 80 master classes, including notable appearances by Tabea Zimmermann and Sergei Babayan. One of the highlights of the Festival for orchestra musicians was certainly the Alpine Symphony by Richard Strauss, performed at sunrise on Mont-Fort (3300 m.).

The Fest'Off at Le Hangar was a real success, with 2500 festival-goers attending. The Gangbé Brass Band, Florian Favre's duo and Gwen & Tiana were particularly popular. As for the Discovery program, the musical kitchen garden and the budding music workshop were also very popular with the public, as were the Making'Op workshop (presentation of the opera singer's profession) and the flash mob on an extract from Carmenperformed at Migros with a children's choir specially assembled for the occasion.

The next edition of the Verbier Festival will take place from July 21 to August 6, 2017.
