First names for JazzAscona
The 33rd edition of JazzAscona, scheduled from Thursday, June 22 to Saturday, July 1, 2017, will focus on New Orleans and honor Ella Fitzgerald.
The musical side of the festival, designed by Nicolas Gilliet, will be opened by the young French soul revelation Opé Smith, one of the headliners of the first weekend.
As always, JazzAscona will feature a selection of New Orleans bands, including the Soul Brass Band (crowned best rising band at the 2016 Best of the Beat Awards), The New Orleans Jazz Vipers (deserving winners of the 2016 Audience Award), Glen David Andrews & Twogether and The New Orleans Swamp Donkeys Jass Band.
JazzAscona will celebrate the centenary of Ella Fitzgerald's birth with the project (shortlisted for the 2016 Grammy Awards) Players Ella & Louie Tribute Band. Among the first names to be announced are Frenchmen Louis Prima Forever.
