Jazzwomen at the AMR

A large all-female ensemble pays tribute to women jazz composers, on the occasion of International Women's Day.

This project is being carried out by students from the AMR and the Conservatoire Populaire. On March 8, International Women's Day, they will be paying tribute to women musicians, whose access to the study of music only became possible in the twentieth century.
They will present a repertoire of compositions by Mary-Lou Williams, the remarkable African-American pianist born in 1910, whose music inspired the Duke, Roland Kirk, and who played with Gillespie, Monk and Charlie Parker.
