OCL celebrates its 75th anniversary
Film-concerts, collaboration with Les Docks and jazz violinist Yilian Cañizares, an open house concert, a photo exhibition on the Grand-Pont and free events in Lausanne's public spaces... the 2017-2018 season marks OCL's 75th anniversary.
Kicking off the OCL's 75th anniversary season, the first Grand Concert will bring together Joshua Weilerstein and violinist Jennifer Koh for a program of great classics and new discoveries, on September 4 and 5.
In October, meet the OCL elsewhere, differently...
On Wednesday, October 11 at the Cinéma Capitole, in collaboration with the Cinémathèque suisse, the OCL will (re)discover La Nouvelle Babylone, a silent film with music by Dmitri Shostakovich. This collaboration will be repeated in February 2018 with Suzie Templeton's animated film Peter and the Wolf, set to Prokofiev's famous music.
On October 18, the OCL will take to the stage at Les Docks alongside violinist Yilian Cañizares for a concert featuring her compositions arranged for the orchestra. On October 22 at the Salle Métropole, the OCL will invite the public to join its ranks for a free open house concert. The 75th anniversary of the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne is also an opportunity to take music out of the concert halls. On October 25, 26 and 27, small groups of OCL musicians will offer musical interludes in various public places around Lausanne. From September 26 to October 26, the Grand Pont will be decked out with historic and current OCL photographs.
75 years of history in words and notes
The OCL is looking back over 75 years of history and music, with the publication of a book and a boxed set of anniversary CDs. The book, by Antonin Scherrer, presents a human and artistic epic in seven tableaux, with photographs by Anne-Laure Lechat. The seven-disc boxed set offers a chance to hear the OCL again, through previously unreleased archives and landmark concerts.
