The program for the 37th Cully Jazz Festival embraces all the vitality of today's jazz scene: renowned artists, a vibrant young jazz scene, Swiss talent and new musical horizons. Among the highlights of this year's festival is Thomas Dutronc's second appearance in the Chapiteau. Erik Truffaz and his quartet, with rapper Nya as guest, will also be back. Malian singer Oumou Sangaré marks her comeback with "Mogoya", her first album since 2009.

Intergenerational meetings
Once again this year, the Festival gives a voice to artists of all generations, enabling encounters where the values of sharing and transmission reign supreme. For example, bassist Stanley Clarke is surrounded by young talents with a relentless funk energy, Rhoda Scott plays alongside a Ladies All Star made up of the new nuggets of the French jazz scene, and the group El Comité, an impromptu gathering of today's best Cuban musicians, invites legendary guitarist Eliades Ochoa of the Buena Vista Social Club on stage.
French pianist Baptiste Trotignon marries the inventive lyricism of clarinettist Michel Portal at Le Temple, while pianist Omar Sosa transmits his vision of the Afro-Cuban musical tradition to young violinist Yilian Cañizares at Le Chapiteau.

A new stage at the top
A veritable showcase for today's jazz, the Next Step reflects the effervescence of the new British scene, from Ezra Collective to saxophonist Nubya Garcia. In the French-speaking world, a new generation of virtuosos is making its mark on the jazz scene, starting with violinist Théo Ceccaldi and saxophonist Emile Parisien.
The Swiss scene also boasts its share of raw talent. Cully Jazz is proud to welcome Elisa Day from Bern and Shems Bendali's quintet, both of whom performed at last year's OFF, to the Chapiteau as opening acts for renowned artists. Festival darlings, pianists Léo Tardin and Gauthier Toux, will respectively present a solo project and a revisited album with a string quintet. Meanwhile, drummer Julian Sartorius will take festival-goers on a musical journey by bus for an original project.
