Jardins Musicaux will take place in August

The 24th edition of the Festival will take place from August 15 to 29, 2021 on the Evologia site in Cernier and in the Chasseral and Doubs Parks. Seven original Bal(l)ades... in the heart of the Parks complement the 24 concerts, film-concerts, shows and operas programmed on the Evologia site.

The 2021 program will be unveiled on May 4, and continues the exploration of musical genres that is the Festival's identity. The promotion of artistic projects in the fields of contemporary, classical, baroque, jazz and contemporary music, by Swiss and international artists, continues energetically despite the current uncertainties.

Two projects for a lively, safe edition
Against all odds provides a safe environment for our audience, artists and staff. New dressing rooms and a new concert venue for the entire duration of the Festival have been defined on the Evologia site. Indeed, the 1000 m2 of the Greenhouses of the City of Neuchâtel allow a large number of efficient sanitary measures, such as alternating our events with the Grange aux Concerts, and distancing the audience and artists if necessary. The project Against all odds will help ensure compliance with current sanitary standards until the end of the Festival.

The Saviors allows us to ensure the realization of the artistic component, with the replacement of artists and musical ensembles in the event of quarantine, illness or impossible international travel. This second project is also intended to support Swiss musicians in a special event to be held in spring 2022, thanks to new and fruitful collaborations with three Neuchâtel cultural institutions.

Mediation and graphic arts
Under the guidance of six teachers from the Val-de-Ruz commune, some 100 schoolchildren from grades 3 to 8 Harmos are working on various themes linked to the performing arts, such as stage design, set production and narrative construction. The opera The Lighthouse by Peter Maxwell Davies, set in the Scottish archipelago of the Flannan Islands, serves as an exploration framework for the participating classes. The students will be welcomed for a rehearsal in June, and a vernissage will be held on Wednesday, August 18, 2021. The exhibition of their work will remain in place for the duration of the Festival. The Première of The Lighthouse is set for Tuesday August 24 at 8 pm at the Grange aux Concerts in Cernier.

In Biel, sixteen students from the School of Visual Arts illustrate the first Bal(l)ades... 2021. This event, produced in partnership with the Chasseral Regional Park, will mark the 10th anniversary of the project. Bal(l)ades... and the Park's 20th anniversary. Each student was inspired by the day's program to create an original poster. The drawings will be exhibited in Cernier during the Festival Les Jardins Musicaux.
