The Swiss Cultural Centre in Paris celebrates its 30th anniversary
Located in the heart of the Marais district, the Centre culturel suisse has been a showcase for Swiss art and culture in Paris for 30 years. Managed by Pro Helvetia, the center brings contemporary Swiss culture to the French capital, and has become an integral part of the Parisian cultural scene, attracting some 40,000 visitors every year.
The official anniversary celebration will take place in September in the presence of Federal Councillor Alain Berset. It will inaugurate "PerformanceProcess", an interdisciplinary project focusing on contemporary Swiss performance art, inviting a number of Swiss productions as one of the highlights of the year.
The 2015 anniversary program kicks off in January with Valais artist Pierre Vadi and Nicolas Party, a Swiss-born artist who works in Brussels. A publication will also be issued, featuring 30 Swiss artists who have marked the CCS's 30 years of existence.
An established institution in the heart of Parisian cultural life
The aim of the Centre culturel suisse de Paris is to promote contemporary Swiss cultural creation in the French capital, and to encourage exchanges between the cultural scenes of the two countries. Paris has traditionally been a major cultural hub for French-speaking Switzerland. But artists from other linguistic regions also see the Centre as a significant opportunity to perform in a world-renowned cultural metropolis, and one that is likely to encourage the development of an artistic career.
For Switzerland, the Centre culturel suisse in Paris has a special significance. It is the oldest Swiss cultural center abroad, founded in 1985.
